ICE HOTEL: ACCOMMODATION FOR MORE 'RESISTANT TO COLD
Lovers of the cold, snow, landscapes of northern Europe? Have you ever thought of organizing a stay in a hotel made of ice? This is not the usual skiing holiday but an experience to "chill" and fit only for the more fearless! The Ice hotels are wonderful buildings entirely made from snow and ice blocks located in the coldest places on the planet.
Their construction can take several months while their time runs out with the snowmelt, the particularity is that these hotels are never the same from year to year: they are created in the winter to be destroyed with the arrival Spring and early warm. A true work of art made of ice and snow, ' Hôtel de Glace, is only 10 minutes from downtown Quebec City, one of the most beautiful parks in the area, easily reachable by public transportation, offers an unforgettable experience of nature and urbanity renewed every year with some particular detail. Each year in early December, the process of building this Canadian Ice Hotel (which is based on that historical attracts thousands of tourists in the village of Jukkasjärvi Lapland) begins again. It employs about thirty people including sculptors, polishers, designers who in mid-January to ensure visitors incomparable thrill of four months, until April, when spring brings warm weather and the snow begins to melt. This year 's creative team worked hard to offer the magic and enchantment, developed on a new issue: biodiversity in all its forms. In this new edition to build the Hôtel de Glace has been used 15 000 tons of snow and 500 tons of ice for about 5.4 meters in height.
To date, the Hotel covers an area of approximately 3000 square feet furnished with handcrafted pieces but also with works of art. Architecture is used for snow-pressed and left to freeze, the furniture is carved directly from large blocks of ice, as if they were marble. It includes 36 rooms themed suites, an Ice Coffee, a chapel, a hall lit by a huge chandelier fiber optics, but also functional fireplaces (which does not dissolve the walls) and a garden of ice.
Inside, you must maintain a temperature of 0 ° in order to avoid the risk of melt! Sleeping bags and blankets will, therefore, the faithful allies to cope with the cold weather!
